CIDER RIDERS CRUSHED

Sunday 13 th August saw the 7th annual ‘Festival of Wakky Races’ held at Evershot cricket pitch halfway between Yeovil and Dorchester. There was a fine turn out of teams this year with the reigning champions ‘The Cider Riders’ having to fend off competition from 10 teams that came from surrounding local villages, Yeovil, Weymouth and even as far as Bognor Regis!

Wakky Races is a day where teams compete in a series of silly games that are a cross between ‘It’s a knockout!’ and ‘The Crystal Maze’ all for the glory of winning the coveted ‘Evershot Wakky Races Trophy’.

With 6 people in a team there was plenty of action for over 200 onlookers to enjoy as the participants tackled a variety of different games that involved wheelbarrows, 6-person sets of skis, some interesting looking horses and lots of buckets of water.

The day was well supported by both villagers and local businesses who helped organise the games and provide the materials needed for the crazy props that make the day such an entertaining event.

With many different games and sideshows going on throughout the day for both adults and children and also a bar and BBQ to keep everyone going (with all proceeds going to village hall and pavilion projects), this was a day of good old fashioned village fun that is getting more and more difficult to find.

The well deserved winners of the event were the finely dressed ‘Stuporheroes’ who turned out to be runaway victors and denied the claims from other teams that they had unfairly used their special powers to win!

The organisers wished to thank everyone that was involved in arranging the event and all that attended and made the day so much fun, and they hope to see you all again next time!

Thanks to everyone’s support over £1,000 was raised for the Village Hall and Pavilion Projects.
